James Hardiefire Insulation is a specialized fire protection insulation made from mineral wool. It is specifically designed for integration with James HardieSmart Blade and Aged Care wall systems. In addition to its fire-resistant properties, this product contributes to the building’s thermal and acoustic performance. James Hardie Insulation is available in 60mm and 85mm thicknesses, with various widths to suit different requirements.
Storage and Handling Guidelines for HardieFire Insulation
It should be stored in an internal dry area, away from direct sunlight and exposure to chemicals, to ensure the integrity of HardieFire insulation. It is crucial to avoid installing James Hardie products during electrical storms. The insulation must be installed on a dry surface and remain protected from weather conditions during transportation and storage. Please note that HardieFire insulation is not designed for prolonged direct exposure to the exterior elements. Before installation, it is essential to ensure the insulation is completely dry.
Installation Procedure for James Hardie Insulation
When inserting HardieFire insulation into wall stud bays, it is crucial to maintain a minimum of 5mm compression along the sides. If cutting is necessary, please allow an additional 5mm to the required dimensions to achieve the desired compression.
To minimize exposure, keep quantities of HardieFire insulation in work areas to a minimum. Avoid contact with eyes and ensure proper safety precautions by wearing the following protective gear during handling and installation:
- Safety goggles or glasses that conform to AS/NZS 1336 standards.
- Protective clothing, including gloves, long sleeve shirts, and trousers.
- P1 or P2 respirators.
Cutting HardieFire Insulation
It is recommended to perform cutting activities outdoors. Ensure proper ventilation or use HEPA vacuums/dust extractors if cutting indoors.
Here’s a step-by-step guide for cutting James Hardie batts:
1. Set up the cutting station so the wind blows dust away from the user and others in the working area.
2. Use a mechanical hand saw or reciprocating saw to cut the James Hardie batts.
