A better insulated home requires less internal heating and cooling to maintain the desired temperature. The Earthwool R2.5 is technically a wall insulation product, but is perfect for under-floors, especially in Australia’s cold mountainous regions where the absence of underfloor insulation will be very noticeable. The R2.5 batts are 90mm thick, which often coincides with the thickness of the underfloor joists. If the floor joists are spaced evening at 450mm spacing from the centre of one joist to the centre of the next – then the R2.5 Earthwool Batt will sit snugly between the joists and will not require any strapping or tape to hold them in place. Nonetheless, to be certain that the insulation will remain intact and in place for the life of the home, it’s strongly recommended to run some strapping or similar across the underside of the joists, in a perpendicular direction to the joists.
